Products, Ingredients and Our Point of Difference
Q: How many products are in the range?
A: There are five core products in the range, with some that can be interchanged for different skin types (e.g. to accommodate acne and dry skin). There is an Eye Cream and Body Cream available in addition.
Q: What are the core ingredients in the products?
A: All of our products include active ingredients (AHAs) such as Glycolic and Lactic Acids which promote exfoliation and the appearance of newer, smoother skin. They also include the most effective form of Vitamins C, A & B3 which assists in repairing and preventing the appearance of ageing skin and Zinc Oxide, an organic form of sunblock.
Q: Do the products help with anti-ageing?
A: Yes. Our range includes ingredients that have been shown to have a very beneficial effect on anti-ageing.
Q: Do any of the products have sunscreen in them?
A: Yes. Sunscreen is the number one anti-ageing product! Our Day Cream includes broad spectrum (SPF15+) which protects against UVA induced ageing and UVB burning. It is a non-greasy, non-ghosting formulation - so it moisturises and protects and won't run into your eyes when you perspire.
Q: Should I be using sunscreen separate to my skincare routine?
A: If you are using our Day Cream, sun protection will last for 2 hours. If you are in direct sunlight, you can reapply the Day Cream every two hours. When partaking in any outdoor pursuits or when going to the beach, we would recommend the use of a water-resistant sunscreen.
Q: Do the products contain make-up remover?
Q: Are the products made in Australia?
A: Yes, we are proud to say all of our products are Australian-made and contain no nasty chemicals.
Q: Are they tested on animals?
A: No. None of our products are tested on animals.
Q: How does The Skin Lab range compare to others on the market?
A: The Skin Lab range was developed by a team of doctors, dermatologists and biochemists and includes ingredients that genuinely make a difference, based on science-based (medical) research and hard evidence. We've put a lot of effort into stabilising our products and ensuring that they not only include the correct quantities of the right ingredients but that they are delivered to the skin in a way that is effective.
Product Ranges and Skin Types
Q: Are there different product ranges?
Q: How do I know which range is best for me?
A: If you have normal, oily, dry or combination skin, we recommend the Active range. If you have sensitive skin or an allergic skin type and suffer from dermatitis and rosacea, our Sensitive range is best. The Sensitive range is also best for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Q: What is the difference between the products in the Active range and Sensitive range?
A: In the Sensitive range the Active Cleanser has been swapped out with a Creamy Cleanser and the Night Cream replaced with Soothing Hydrating Cream. We also offer an Ultra Night Cream for those with extremely dry skin which includes retinal and niacinamide. We recommend starting out with our regular Night Cream before transitioning to the Ultra Night Cream.
Q: I have acne, which range is best for me?
A: The Active range is best for those with Acne. We recommend using the Active cleanser in conjunction with a Konjac sponge. For severe acne, we advise you to leave out the Morning Serum which is highly moisturising and simply use the Day Cream directly after cleansing. You can use the Night Serum and Night Cream as per usual in the evening.
Q: I have rosacea, which range is best for me?
A: The Sensitive range is best for those with rosacea, but we advise removing the Night Serum from your routine.
Q: Do you have a body care range?
A: We have a 100mL Body Renew Cream, which is especially suited to those with hard, dry or scaly skin on the body. It includes Aloe Vera and Urea which provide heavy-duty moisturising for skin that needs a drink!
Q: Do you have an eye cream?
A: We offer a 15mL Eye Cream which is effective in reducing bags, dark circles and wrinkles under and around the eye. It includes caffeine, glycerine
Q: Is there a mask or scrub-based product?
A: Our Active Cleanser includes AHAs which undo the glue which holds dead skin together, allowing the skin to be gently exfoliated without the need for harsh scrubs. Using a soft face cloth to remove the cleanser also assists with exfoliation. We now also have Konjac sponges available which can be used when cleansing for further exfoliation.
Q: Do you have a travel-sized range?
A: The five core products in both of our ranges, Sensitive and Active, come in the hand-luggage friendly 15mL travel size - which means you can easily continue your usual skin care routine when on the go.
Q: Are the products safe to use during pregnancy?
A: Yes, our Sensitive range is suitable for use during pregnancy. The ingredients to be wary of when you are pregnant include any product containing Vitamin A. You should also avoid our Body Renew Cream when pregnant.
How to Use the Products
Q: What order do I apply the products in?
A: The range is quick and easy to use, with the products to be applied in a simple step-by-step process, as follows:
- In the morning, Step 1 is to apply a small amount of the Active Cleanser (about the size of a 10-cent coin) to your hands, rub them together and rub directly on to the face in a circular motion to form a lather. Wash it off and pat the skin dry.
- Then, follow with Step 2 by applying the Morning Serum; just two or three pumps onto your fingertips, rub them together and apply directly to your face, avoiding the eye area.
- Step 3 is the Day Cream. Again, you just need a few pumps, rub together and apply directly to your face.
- In the evening, repeat Step 1 from above, by applying the Active Cleanser to clean your skin, just like you did in the morning. It's also important to take off any makeup using makeup remover or makeup wipes before you move on step 2.
- Next, you apply Step 4 - the Night Serum. Just squirt two or three pumps onto your fingertips, rub and then apply directly to your face, avoiding the eye area.
- Finally, for Step 5, just a couple of pumps of the Night Cream onto your fingertips and then apply directly to your face.
Q: How do I apply the Eye Cream?
A: Simply dispense half a pump onto the fingertips and apply to the skin under the eye. Regular use as part of your routine helps reduce wrinkles around the eye (goodbye crow’s feet!)
Q: Do I rinse the cleanser off or tissue off?
A: For best results, we recommend rinsing the cleanser off and then patting the skin dry. You can either use a wet, soft face cloth to remove the cleanser or rinse off in the shower if you prefer.
Side-Effects & Results
Q: What results can I expect?
A: Most of our customers describe their skin as looking more radiant as well as a reduction in the appearance of any fine lines and wrinkles. You will see an improvement within three weeks of using the products.
Q: What should I do if I experience any burning or stinging from the products?
A: The product that you are most likely to be sensitive to in our range is our Night Serum as it contains Salicylic Acid. It is not unusual to get some stinging at the time of application, however if this continues we recommend you reduce use of this product to only twice per week. You shouldn’t experience any burning, stinging or discomfort when applying the other products in our range.
Q: I am getting some redness and flakiness from using the products – is this normal?
A: It is not unusual to get flakiness, a bit of dry flaking skin on the surface when you start using the products. This is part of the natural exfoliation associated and will subside in a few days. If you have redness on the skin or experience any stinging sensation, the most likely cause of this in the Night Serum and we would recommend you stop using this until the irritation settles and then reintroduce it only twice per week.
Q: What if my skin is no better at all after using the products?
A: If you are having persistent issues it is important to make an appointment as there are medications that can be prescribed by one of the Skin Lab doctors that can be taken in conjunction with Skin Lab product range and may accelerate the settling down of your particular skin issue.
Q: How long will the products typically last me?
A: The 50mL products, if used every day, should last you around three to four months. We also have a travel (15mL) sized range which is perfect for use when on the go. This will last you about four weeks if used every day.
